Crafting a User-Centric Journey: Unveiling the Five Phases of Maple Bank App's Design Evolution
Our design process for the Maple Bank app passed through five phases: Emphasize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Understand.
We identified a strong rewards program and quick international transfers, defined user needs via interviews, brainstormed creatively, and materialized ideas into prototypes.
Throughout this journey, we aimed to grasp users' needs and pain points, ensuring our design addressed them effectively.
The Process
Competitive Analysis and User Interviews
A detailed competitive analysis of BMO, Remitley, and Paypal revealed crucial insights.
To optimize user experience, our app would highlight easy currency exchange, transparent fees, and rate fluctuation notifications.
An enticing rewards program could drive growth, and a clean, minimalist design would ensure seamless navigation.
User Journey and Brainstorming
We embarked on a captivating user journey, visualizing the steps and interactions within the app. This guided our brainstorming sessions as we explored creative solutions to enhance each touchpoint.
By visualizing the target users' needs, we were able to align our ideas with their expectations and aspirations, resulting in a more user-centered design.
Competitive Analysis and User Interviews
With our ideas taking shape, we crafted a paper prototype, allowing us to test and refine the app's flow and interactions.
Building upon the insights gained, we created low-fidelity, mid-fidelity, and high-fidelity wireframes, progressively refining the visual and interactive elements.
This iterative process ensured a user-friendly and visually appealing interface.
Usability Testing
User feedback played a pivotal role in shaping the final design. Through rigorous usability testing, we validated our design decisions, ironed out pain points, and fine-tuned the app's functionality.
This iterative approach allowed us to create an intuitive and seamless user experience.

The app not only addresses user requirements but also unlocks new areas of business growth.
Although measuring KPIs at this stage is not feasible, we are confident that the app's functionality will drive user engagement, retention, and growth through enticing rewards, real-time notifications, and simplified exchange and transfer processes.
Project Outcome
Our journey taught us valuable lessons. Research, even when confident in initial data, brings fresh perspectives and enables better user-oriented designs.
We overcame challenges together and are proud of our work.
Looking ahead, we have exciting next steps, including implementing payment plans to unlock new features and rewards, partnering with local businesses for QR code payments, and expanding the Maple Bank rewards program through collaborations with transportation and retail partners.
